    Description

A classic & great value Barossa Shiraz.

94+ Points, Andrew Caillard, The Vintage Journal

"Deep crimson. Classical choco-berry aromas with panforte notes. Richly flavoured wine with ample dark chocolate, dark berry fruits, plentiful chocolatey tannins and marzipan/cedarwood/touch bourbon new oak notes. Finishes chocolatey firm with a spike of aniseed. Very likeable punter’s wine, rather than a critic’s choice. Drink now or keep, as the elements might fold and integrate further. Drink: Now–2028."

This Shiraz is sourced from 5 vineyards on the ‘floor’ of the Barossa Valley plus 3 in Eden Valley which includes one 110 year old parcel. It was bottled slightly earlier to preserve the primary attributes of the quality fruit. This wine was aged in French and American oak and shows great primary, regional characters of plum, blackberry, anise and cedar oak. The palate is layered and plush, and the fruit tannin dominates the oak tannin. Medium to full bodied, the wine is long and comes to a clean finish with the fruit tannin providing a defined, but not abrupt end.

    Description

“This poised and charming 2022 Shiraz radiates with dark cherry, clove, meaty spices and an attractive oak backbone. Compact and seamless, while not particularly concentrated, it delivers a delicious and moreish Barossa expression, offering both sweet fruit and savoury layers. Epic value.” – Angus Hughson
Anything up to 12 vineyards go into this wine. it’s typically a blend of approx. 50/50 Barossa and Eden Valleys. The Barossa Valley provides the engine room for the palate, the Eden Valley components provide the lifted aromatics. Mostly French oak, and mostly 500 litre puncheons to slow down the oak uptake and preserve aromatics. The Barossa’s calling card variety; some people outside of our region think it’s all we do but anyhow…

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Tim Smith Wines

These days, Tim Smith Wines is one of Australia’s most awarded boutique wineries. Tim’s wines have collected medals all over Australia and around the world, and in 2019, he won the coveted Barons of the Barossa Winemaker of the Year award. It was a meaningful one for Tim, who feels deeply connected to the region. Tim’s wines include Barossa superstars Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro, as well as Viognier and Riesling from neighbouring Eden Valley. He sources grapes from some of the best vineyards in the Barossa, working closely with the families who tend them. “My approach to making great wine is to get good grape growers, because they do the hard work; they understand that stuff,” says Tim. “And then, in the winery, it’s kind of a hands-off approach. We don’t overwork the wines.
