A smashing red wine! Mostly a blend based on vines from the Eden Valley. Almost always 100% French oak. Again-early picking to preserve natural acidity and varietal character.

    About Vintage 2018:

“Tim Smith hasn’t released a Reserve Shiraz since 2014. He’s back on the dance floor with this brilliant 2018 edition. There’s an elegance here which is hard to resist. The fruit for this wine is predominantly from the Eden Valley. The vines in the Eden Valley don’t grow as quickly and they have smaller berries compared to those in the Barossa.

Only 200 dozen were produced. Spending 18 months in French oak, scents of coffee grounds rise up from the glass. The pristine fruit is drenched in delicious red and black berries. Some meatiness tucks itself in and relaxes in the background. All I can think of is German sausages. Baking spices shimmer as this wine fills the mouth with ease. You get a sense the fruit is at a protest rally – moving in, sitting down and not moving. The length is sublime – dangerously smooth and moreish. Soft tannins urge attention and scream moreishness. Yeah, resistance is futile. Drink to ten years+.”

    What The Critics Say
"Deep, dark red/purple colour, the bouquet smoky-charry, ironstone and tar, bright and fresh and intense. The wine is full-bodied and very powerful, tightly-focused and penetrating on the palate, with terrific length and a fine complement of balanced, supple but drying tannins. Traces of cherry eau-de-vie. Sumptuous flavour and abundant tannins, lingering long on the after-palate. A smashing red wine. (From four vineyards at High Eden/Craneford, Greenock, and Kalimna/Ebenezer) Drink: 2021-2036"

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Tim Smith Wines

These days, Tim Smith Wines is one of Australia’s most awarded boutique wineries. Tim’s wines have collected medals all over Australia and around the world, and in 2019, he won the coveted Barons of the Barossa Winemaker of the Year award. It was a meaningful one for Tim, who feels deeply connected to the region. Tim’s wines include Barossa superstars Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro, as well as Viognier and Riesling from neighbouring Eden Valley. He sources grapes from some of the best vineyards in the Barossa, working closely with the families who tend them. “My approach to making great wine is to get good grape growers, because they do the hard work; they understand that stuff,” says Tim. “And then, in the winery, it’s kind of a hands-off approach. We don’t overwork the wines.
