    Description

By Ben Radford (ex-Rockford) from a 160 year old vineyard. This is Cabernet from some of the oldest Cabernet vines in the world. The nose is full of black fruits with spices, cocoa, bay and truffle. The palate dense and rich with more of the same chocolate and truffle notes, juicy black fruit and fine dusty tannins that run to a lengthy earth filled finish.

93 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review "Deep red with tinges of purple and a little forward development; the bouquet likewise starting to mellow and show some softening and development. Crushed leaves and forest undergrowth, dried herbs and plug tobacco, the palate full-bodied and dense with chewy tannins and plenty of oomph. A trace of bitterness right at the end. Rich, full-bodied red wine. (Vines planted in 1858 to 1962, and 1970s). Drink: Now-2036"

    Description

Planted in 1858, 1862 and 1970. Not sure why the Cabernet is more expensive than the Grenache, but hey!

Choc-mint, truffle, cocoa, blackcurrant, blackberry, baking spice and sage. It’s a rich wine, lavish Eden Valley Cabernet character, which is better for some, than others. Juicy black fruit, a lot of truffle and tobacco, with a sweetness to dark fruit, tea and chocolate, and kind of overt in that way. Tannin has a milk tea and dark chocolate grip, and the finish is sooty and sweet, with drying dusty tannin on a truffle-laced finish of solid length. It’s quite a lot, and some may love, but for me, just a little too soupy and drying. Still.

92 Points. Gary Walsh, The Wine Front 2023

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Stonegarden

Stonegarden is a single vineyard in Eden valley that was planted 160 years ago – the vineyard has been tended organically for the last decade and the wines are made by Ben Radford who has been in charge at Rockford for 20 years. These wines are from a hidden part of Australian history and the wines that
speak of their place in the world and in time. The vines are ancient, the yields are puny and there is not a lot available.
