    Description

Incredible value Chablis! Colour is bright, pale lemon-gold, having pure, lemony aromas. This is really quite pretty with its ripe and fresh pear, green fruit scents. The supple and very round middle weight flavors possess an attractive texture before culminating in a saline-infused, pure and balanced finish. This is one of those wines that could easily be enjoyed now but should also reward a few years of cellar time if desired.

    ABOUT DOMAINE DANIEL DAMPT

Resulting from a family of winegrowers dating back 150 years, Daniel Dampt’s estate currently counts 30 hectares of vines in production, including 16 hectares of Chablis and 14 hectares of Chablis Ier Cru. All Daniel Dampt's wines are produced and bottled by the domaine. Based in Milly, Domaine Dampt is a significant Chablis estate with serious land holdings. They have 30 hectares of Chablis vines, 14 of which are in Premier Cru, taking in top sites like Vaillons, Fourchaume, Cote de Lechet, Les Lys and Beauroy. Daniel took over the running of the domaine from his father-in-law Jean Defaix in the 1990's and retired in 2018. The new generation in charge are Daniel's son Vincent and Sebastien.

    Description

This is a lively, intense, freshly citrusy mouthful, being silkily textured and finely structured. It finishes with raciness, vitality and excellent length. Dampt's Chablis comes predominantly from old, 45 year-old vines that grow near the family Domaine, in the hamlet of Milly. No oak is used here, so this is a pristine expression of Chardonnay grown on these chalky hillsides.

    What The Critics Say
Here too there is a touch of petrol character to the fresh and bright nose of quinine, oyster shell and lemon confit. The mouthfeel of the medium weight flavors is rich to the point of opulence while offering better volume and density on the lightly stony, clean and moderately dry finale. This would also benefit from having better depth but here there's a good chance it will have time to develop before it's mature. Drink: 2026+

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Daniel Dampt

Domaine Daniel Dampt et Fils is in the old village of Milly, which has now become part of Chablis. It is independently run, managing its own winemaking process from start to finish. The current generation – Vincent Dampt and Sébastien Dampt – integrate the traditions and advice passed on to them by their father, Daniel Dampt, and their grandfather, Jean Defaix. They are also innovative and take exceptional care of the vines, their fruit and the wines they produce, patiently maturing them in stainless steel tanks and honouring the fine qualities of the Chablis appellation. Daniel Dampt & Fils produces white wines from parcels within the four Chablis appellations: Grand Cru, Premier Cru, Chablis and Petit Chablis. Chardonnay contributes its power and expressiveness to the wines produced from these vineyards, taking advantage of the varied exposure of the slopes sculpted by the river Serein, a tributory of the Yonne. There are wines for all tastes: refreshing, lively and bright, or ample, supple and round, and the proof of the wine – naturally – is in the tasting.
