Domaine Naturaliste 'Morus' Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River 2019
$90.00
Description
Domaine Naturaliste's finest cuvee of Cabernet Sauvignon from the heart of Margaret River. A single vineyard selection of the prized “Houghton clone” planted in 1978 and then another section in 1982. These fully mature and majestic vines are some of the oldest in the region, planted by the second wave of winegrowing pioneers. The gravelly soils of the vineyard are flanked by the dominant native hard wood trees named Jarrah. Jarrah trees are a favourable and exact biological indicator that the site is ideally matched to Cabernet Sauvignon.
96 pts Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, Erin Larkin: “It has cassis bramble, pomegranate molasses, cocoa nib and mulberry. The acid has a juiciness that offsets the supple, ductile tannin.”
95 pts Gold Decanter World Wine Awards: “Aromas of dark brambly fruit, cassis, sweet oak spices and hints of cedar. Big plush tannins on the palate, persistent.”
95 pts James Suckling: “Aromas of black and red currants, fresh coffee, bark and pine needle. Medium-bodied with bright acidity. Fresh and red fruit with some savory undertones.”
ABOUT DOMAINE NATURALISTE
The wines of Domaine Naturaliste are made by owner Bruce Dukes, who makes wines for "a handful" of producers around Margaret River. The wines at this estate are astoundingly clear in their style and show an abundance of personality, which fits hand in hand with the expression of site and terroir. The Morus Cabernet is a a dense, muscular style of Cabernet, which, since the 2020 vintage, is sealed under screw cap. This has done wonders (I believe) for the freshness of the wine, and I am very excited to see these same wines in a decade to really get a handle on the impact of the closure. Owner/winemaker Bruce Dukes purchased the 35-hectare Wilyabrup vineyard in 2018. - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
