Douloufakis Dafnios Vidiano Crete White 2022
$38.00
Description
Lovely dry white. A wine which makes you ponder your next holiday in Greece! Vidiano is a very old Cretan variety largely ignored until recently. No oak here. Has a light gold/yellow hue and delicious honeycomb red apple ginger spice kind of vibe on the nose and palate. It’s silky and gently viscous but also zesty, minerally and upbeat. Like no other dry white you would find in Australia, which I guess is the point of drinking these exotic Greek whites and reds. This is really interesting and lovely to sip on.
ABOUT DOULOUFAKIS WINERY
Located in the centre of Crete, the Douloufakis winery is now looked after by third generation Nikos Douloufakis who has put this estate on the world map. All the estates vineyards are situated on hill slopes at an altitude of 350 meters. They are mostly cultivated by hand and cover 20 hectares, all situated within the vine-growing region of Dafnes. Nikos is almost entirely responsible for the premium representation of Vidiano. The Aspros Lagos (white rabbit) is a medium-bodied, oak and acacia oak barrel fermented expression of this variety, that embodies texture and class. The dry red version of Liatiko is delicious and silky and clear proof that this variety is more than worthy of attention. Nikos’ understanding of contemporary wine styles and the current industry trends are clearly displayed in these wines and the focus on indigenous varieties shows this line up is Crete’s finest.
