Santa Duc Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'Habemus Papam' 2020
$109.00
Description
"The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Habemus Papam is another vibrant, crunchy wine from this estate. Darker cherries, candied strawberries, and peppery garrigue are just some of the nuances, and it’s medium-bodied, has a supple, elegant, Burgundian, streamlined mouthfeel, fine tannins, and a great finish. It’s impeccably made and, as with the Les Saintes Vierges, is going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and keep for over a decade. Drink 2024 -2026" - 92 Points, JebDunnuck.com, Nov 2022
This label is a tribute to Jean XXII, a native of Cahors, who was the first pope to choose Avignon as the Papal residence and build a new castle (château neuf) in the place that should become Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wine is a hand picked blend of Grenache (64%), Syrah (25%), Mourvedre (10%) & Counoise (1%) grown on sandy clay, safre soils, ancient alluvial and molassic sands. Before release the wine spends 18 months in large foudres and terracotta jars.
