95 Points Decanter Magazine - "Palate coating fruit and very fine tannins in abundance. A highly structural wine, where the acidity, tannin and alcohol are really to the fore, the fruit buried within. I expect it to take on fruit weight over time however and grow into the structure. Full-bodied, fresh, textural and highly fragrant. Co-planted on limestone marls behind the village. 60% whole bunch, aged in Stockinger foudres except for 20% that is aged in terracotta amphorae."

Located 350 meters above sea level, Clos Derriere Vielle was acquirred by Yves Gras in 1994. After a lot of hard work Yves restored the narrow terraced vineyards. Each grape variety was planted on a terrace to meet its demand for water: Syrah in damp soils, Mourvèdre in stony ones and Grenache in transitional zones. On the limestone soils of the Cretaceous, the wine develops a fine bouquet of fresh fruits and delicate, floral notes, supported by mineral freshness and fine tannins.

    What The Critics Say
80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah. Organic and biodynamic. 60% whole bunch. Aged in 80% Stockinger foudres, 20% terracotta jars. Tank sample. Tasted blind. Meaty nose with stewed mulberry and a subtle ashy (whole bunch?) note. Firm and fine tannins and a very subtle note of black pepper underneath the bright fruit. A little drying for now, but will develop nicely over time. Drink: 2024-2032.
