96 Points, Huon Hooke, The Real Review - "Good depth of colour, not too dark but good hue for a 9 year-old, and the bouquet is disarmingly complex and charming, with rpse-petal, raspberry and star-anise overtones. The wine is rich and deepmon palate, with very fine, soft tannins, all part of the lovely mellowness this wine has acquired over time. Red fruits, licorice and spices aplenty. Drinking very well now but another decade or so won't worry it. Drink: Now-2045"

96 Points, James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion - "Excellent hue, still red-purple; a totally delicious vintage port style, with an elegance no other young Australian vintage ports approach; spicy black fruits, and a long finish."

Fresh sweet blackberry and rose petal aroma, rich blood plum and a hint of white chocolate finishing with mild lingering tannins.

    Description

As one of the top wineries of Australia 2022 by The Real Review, Stanton & Killeen is best known for their majestic world-class fortified wines. Chris Killen who passed away in 2007 made all of these VP’s (except the 2015) and they are a living memory of him and are a history of his passion and genius. Chris was Australia’s Prince of Port.

Campbell Mattison described Chris as a Rutherglen Stalwart and VP champion saying: “Stanton and Killeen vintage port is Australia’s best, and most complex, vintage port by a long, long shot.”

These wines have an amazing ability to age as recent (June 2021) James Halliday & Jane Falkner notes attest.

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Stanton & Killeen

Stanton and Killeen Vintage Fortified (previously Vintage Port) is made from grapes picked in a single vintage year, which during the wine making process, has carefully selected grape spirit added to it, resulting in a final alcohol content of about 18.5%.

Following almost two years in premium oak, the fortified is bottled. It then requires 10-20 years bottle ageing before it is fully matured and ready to drink.
Stanton & Killeen have crafted a Vintage Fortified unlike most others produced in Australia. The Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified has evolved into a dryer more elegant style, this has occurred with the introduction of Portuguese Port grape varieties added to those traditionally used in Australia.

The business is now owned and run by 7th-generation vigneron Natasha Killeen and her mother and CEO, Wendy Killeen. Fortifieds are a strong focus for the winery with around half of its production dedicated to this style. Their vineyards comprise 14 varieties, including 7 Portuguese cultivars used for both fortified and table wine production. A vineyard rejuvenation program has been implemented since '14, focusing on sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. South African winemaker Adriaan Foot joined in Jan '23.
