Description
A stunning bargain Sicily red wine! Grown on a sandy red iron rich soil ‘Pignatello’ which is used locally for pottery. The vineyards are between 100 and 300 metres above sea level. Aromas of fruits of the forest, cherry, and five spice. On the palate rich, bright juicy sour cherry flavours with light round tannins. Medium bodied and a perfect wine for a warm summer evening. Lovely.
Herbaceous and slightly spicy with aromas of cinnamon and pepper and luscious flavours of wild berry. A reminiscence of Pinot Noir. This lighter bodied Sicilian red uses 100% hand harvested Nerello Mascalese grapes from vineyards planted in sandy soils in western Sicily. 12-15 days of fermentation with daily pump overs and racking precedes maturation in stainless steel with minimal oak contact to preserve fresh fruit flavours.
''Stylistically Nerello Mascalese falls between Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo in style. Like Pinot Noir it can produce fruit forward elements with a crisp acidity. Aromatically, Nerello Mascalese wines have the distinctive red fruit notes of strawberry, red cherry and raspberry. They can be very floral, and sometimes exhibit the rose petal aroma that Nebbiolo is known for.'' - Joseph Micallef, Forbes.com
