Timo Mayer Close Planted Pinot Noir Yarra Valley 2024
$65.00
Description
Timo Mayer's Close Planted Pinot Noir is a Yarra Valley gem, highly coveted by enthusiasts. Grown on his intimate estate just 8km South of Healesville, it's a wine that often slips into obscurity due to overwhelming demand from devoted fans. This Pinot embodies a slightly wild and intriguing style, with the close plantings creating a vineyard battleground for natural resources, resulting in characterful and intense fruit. Don't miss the chance to experience one of the Yarra's most unique wines – the Close Planted is exceptional, reflecting both individuality and excellence.
94 Points, The Wine Front: "Quite a crisp, bright pinot noir, textural with a haze of silty tannin, succulence through the long finish, lots of spice. Reeks of red cherry, tastes similar, a touch of old spice cupboard and warm slate mineral character, anise in there too. Complex. Layered. Quite light and fine, understated. A more square Timo wine than usual, but in that, appreciated for its elegance." (of vintage 2023)
ABOUT TIMO MAYER
German-born, enigmatic winemaker Timo Mayer is one of the great characters of the Yarra Valley. The words bombastic, charismatic and wild are as much applicable to the man as his wines. From his close-planted Yarra Valley vineyard, evocatively named 'Bloody Hill', Timo carves out some astounding wines made with low levels of new oak and minimal additions. The signature of Timo's winemaking style is his penchant for whole-bunch ferment. His wines have an ethereal quality, firm tannins and impeccable structure. These are compelling and extremely limited wines that tell a unique story of the Yarra Valley.
