Timo Mayer Sangiovese Yarra Valley 2024
$60.00
Description
Sultry, silky, and effortlessly seductive, this Sangiovese is all about pure pleasure. Juicy red cherries and wild strawberries spill from the glass, laced with crushed violets, warm spice, and a whisper of earthiness. The palate is sleek and vibrant, with supple tannins and a bright, mouthwatering acidity that keeps you coming back for more. A touch of wildness adds intrigue, while the long, lingering finish leaves a teasing kiss of spice and minerality.
94 Points, The Wine Front: "Dixon’s Creek sangiovese. A 100% whole bunch ferment, as is the Mayer way. “These are the best 2023s I have ever made”, says Timo?
Shows scents of charcuterie, black olive, plum, black pepper. Surprisingly juicy in the palate yet also a swish of chalky tannin giving shape and a powderiness to finish. A sweetness, maybe richness let’s say, of forest berry fruits to taste but the lingering flavours are minerally, earthy and truffle-umami laced. Delightful. Almost a bold pinosity here – yet with tannin structure on song. Good gear." (of the '23)
ABOUT TIMO MAYER
German-born, enigmatic winemaker Timo Mayer is one of the great characters of the Yarra Valley. The words bombastic, charismatic and wild are as much applicable to the man as his wines. From his close-planted Yarra Valley vineyard, evocatively named 'Bloody Hill', Timo carves out some astounding wines made with low levels of new oak and minimal additions.
