If you’re into silky Chardonnay with a little extra body, Macon’s always a good bet.

Crafted by the renowned Vincent Girardin, a producer celebrated for his precision and commitment to terroir, this wine offers a fresh and vibrant expression of southern Burgundy’s unique landscape. Girardin’s philosophy of sustainable viticulture and minimalist winemaking allows the natural character of the region and the varietal to shine.

    ABOUT DOMAINE VINCENT GIRARDIN

Vincent Girardin is a highly regarded Burgundy domaine based in Meursault. It makes a wide range of wines from both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay although the latter predominates. Most holdings span the Côte de Beaune, from grand cru sites such as Le Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne, through premiers crus in Chassagne and Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin and Santenay, all the way down to vineyards at village-level and regional appellations. The domaine has around 22 hectares (54 acres) of owned vineyards and also acts as a négoce, buying in fruit from growers who can adhere to a certain code of practice, which includes things like using higher trellising for better photosynthesis and avoiding the use of herbicides and insecticides. In the winery, the grapes undergo fermentations using indigenous yeasts, followed by long maturation on the fine lees. Vincent Girarden does not use a high proportion of new oak to mature its wines.

    Description

The grapes for this Mâcon-Fuissé are sourced from limestone-rich vineyards around the village of Fuissé, a sub-region known for producing expressive yet approachable Chardonnays. The warm, sunny climate of the Mâconnais ensures ripe fruit flavors, while the chalky soils provide a backbone of minerality and balance.

Vinification focuses on preserving the purity and brightness of the fruit. The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed, with fermentation taking place in stainless steel tanks to maintain freshness and precision. The wine undergoes aging on fine lees, which enhances its texture and complexity while keeping the focus on the vibrant fruit and subtle minerality.

In the glass, Vincent Girardin Mâcon-Fuissé displays a pale gold hue with shimmering reflections. The nose is expressive and inviting, with aromas of green apple, ripe pear, and citrus zest, complemented by delicate floral notes and a touch of crushed stone. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and refreshing, with flavors of lemon, white peach, and a hint of honey. A crisp acidity and subtle minerality carry through to a clean and lingering finish.

    What The Critics Say
Of the '18: "The 2018 Pouilly Fuissé Les Vieilles Vignes offers light tropical scents of passion fruit and pineapple on the nose, quite energetic and nicely defined even if it is not the most mineral-driven Pouilly Fuissé that you will ever find. The palate is well balanced with a creamy opening, modest weight with vanilla pod and almond lining the sweet, somewhat commercial finish."
