    Description

93 Points, The Wine Advocate, July 2024: "A blend of 60% Clairette and 30% Ugni Blanc complemented with Rolle, Bourboulenc and Marsanne, the 2023 Bandol Blanc exhales a complex, perfumed bouquet of ripe orchard fruits, lemon, acacia flowers, spring flowers and confit citrus. Medium-bodied, textured and enveloping, it’s delicate with a fleshy mid-palate, bright acids and a long, mineral finish. This is a stunning white wine that will offer a broad drinking window. Drink Date: 2024 - 2040"

    ABOUT DOMAINE TEMPIER BANDOL

Tempier is one of the best known estates in Bandol and has been run by the Peyraud family since 1936, when Lucie Tempier married Lucien Peyraud. In 1943 Lucien bottled his first wine, a rose, and by 1945 had become President of the Bandol Wine Association, a position he held for 37 years. The couple were fundamental in the ensuing growth and recognition of Bandol as a globally recognised producer of fine wine. Lucien died in 1996 and Lucie (Lulu) continued her involvment in both food and wine, until her death in October 2020 at the age of 102, just after the harvest.

From the vintage 2020, the family decided to rename their classic red cuvée "Lulu & Lucien" in honour of the couple.

    Description

This 18-hectare piece of land bought in 2016 is oriented east, south–east, located at 300 meters altitude. It is a terroir with an exceptional potential, mostly composed of sandy marl of the santonien. Its cooler orientation is what interested us. As it is less hot, it is mostly used to emphasize the freshness of white and rosé wines. Historically this terroir was considered the reference for Bandol in these two colors. Some old vintages show it’s still possible to make great red wines too.

    Composition
Clairette (60%), Ugni blanc (30%) with Rolle, Bourboulenc, and Marsanne
Average age of the vines: 25-30 years

    Vinification
    In tanks and tuns

    Aging
    10 months before bottling.
Conservation : 1 to 5 years. A much longer aging is possible, to evolve towards more honeyed and marine aromas.

    What The Critics Say
"From a tiny parcel (1.5 hectares) of old-vine Mourvèdre (92-94%), with the balance a mix of Cinsault and Syrah, the medium to full-bodied 2020 Bandol Rouge Cuvee Cabassaou is impressively rich, concentrated and velvety. Marked by scents of tree bark, truffles and red raspberries, it's a wonderfully complex and balanced effort that should age comfortably for at least two decades. Drink 2024-2040" (previous vintage)
