Scents of cola, smoke and red berries provide ample complexity on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is concentrated and almost creamy in texture while remaining fresh and dynamic on the lengthy finish. ABOUT DOMAINE TEMPIER BANDOL
Tempier is one of the best known estates inBandol and has been run by the Peyraud family since 1936, when Lucie Tempier married Lucien Peyraud. In 1943 Lucien bottled his first wine, a rose, and by 1945 had become President of the Bandol Wine Association, a position he held for 37 years. The couple were fundamental in the ensuing growth and recognition of Bandol as a globally recognised producer of fine wine. Lucien died in 1996 and Lucie (Lulu) continued her involvment in both food and wine, until her death in October 2020 at the age of 102, just after the harvest.
From the vintage 2020, the family decided to rename their classic red cuvée "Lulu & Lucien" in honour of the couple.
Description
Located near Castellet, this terroir is extremely windy but also exposed to the sun from sunrise to sunset. The soil is composed of sandstone and marl of the Santonien (75-90 Ma); gypsum can be found on the surface. Although located at the top of the hill, the soil is relatively deep with a lot of clay. The vines mature easily on the hillside favorable to mourvèdre. It is said that mourvèdre likes to look at the sea with its feet in the water (in other words with sufficient water supplies).
La Tourtine blends power and elegance. The cuvée is selected from this exceptionsl terroir of only 5.5 hectares.
